Artificial Saliva Solution – Klimek Formulation (pH 7.0) is a literature-based test medium developed for dental erosion studies, demineralization–remineralization cycles, enamel and dentin surface examinations, and the controlled laboratory evaluation of dental materials.
The product is prepared according to the mucin-free variant of Klimek-type artificial saliva used in dental research. Its controlled electrolyte composition and pH 7.0 provide a reproducible test environment representing the mineral phase of the oral environment.
Its ready-to-use form reduces the need to weigh and dissolve multiple low-level components or repeat pH adjustment in the laboratory. This supports more consistent and comparable conditions across different experimental series.
Main Applications
- Dental erosion and surface-loss studies
- Enamel and dentin demineralization–remineralization cycles
- Restoration of a controlled mineral environment following acidic exposure
- Toothpaste and controlled brushing–abrasion studies
- Enamel and dentin microhardness, roughness and profilometry measurements
- Surface stability studies of restorative dental materials
- Conditioning of orthodontic wires, brackets and dental materials
- Metal-ion release studies using appropriate blanks and control groups
- Dental material, biomaterial and oral-environment simulation studies
- University research, academic projects and research laboratory applications
What Is the Klimek Formulation?
Klimek artificial saliva is a literature-based model used in dental research to represent the mineral and electrolyte environment of the oral cavity under controlled laboratory conditions. It provides a balanced test medium containing oral-relevant ions and low-level organic constituents.
The product is particularly suitable as a conditioning or immersion medium between acidic exposure stages in dental erosion experiments. Its pH 7.0 provides a neutral and controlled environment at the beginning of the experiment.
This product is the mucin-free literature variant of the Klimek formulation. It therefore does not reproduce every biological property of natural saliva, including protein-mediated pellicle formation, enzymatic activity and viscoelastic behaviour. Its purpose is not to reproduce natural saliva in its entirety, but to provide a defined and reproducible liquid medium for dental research.

Why Choose Klimek Artificial Saliva?
- A recognized literature model for dental erosion and remineralization research
- Provides a controlled mineral and electrolyte environment for enamel and dentin samples
- Suitable as a neutral conditioning medium between acidic exposures
- Helps reduce composition and pH differences between repeated experiments
- Eliminates the need to weigh multiple low-level components in the laboratory
- Ready-to-use form simplifies experimental preparation
- Custom volumes and research-specific variants can be prepared
Use and Experimental Considerations
The required solution volume, specimen-to-solution ratio, contact time, temperature, agitation conditions and renewal frequency should be determined according to the applicable research protocol. Before use, the product should be brought to the required working temperature and checked for homogeneity.
In dental erosion and remineralization cycles, the working solution that has contacted specimens should preferably be renewed daily or according to the experimental plan. This helps limit the effects of dissolved minerals, acid carryover and components transferred from previous treatment stages.
Daily renewal of the working medium does not mean that the unopened product must be freshly prepared every day. The shelf life of the unopened product and its period of use after opening should be evaluated according to the product label and batch-specific storage information.
Appropriate blank solutions, negative controls and method controls should be included in metal-ion release and trace-element studies. The researcher is responsible for evaluating the suitability of the artificial saliva formulation for the intended experimental purpose.
Storage and Handling
- Keep the container tightly closed.
- Protect from direct sunlight and heat sources.
- Do not freeze.
- Check the appearance and homogeneity before use.
- Do not return specimen-contacted solution to the original container.
- Do not use if turbidity, precipitation, discolouration or loss of container integrity is observed.
- Follow the storage conditions and period of use stated on the product label.
