Artificial Saliva Gal–Fovet (SAGF) is a literature-based synthetic artificial saliva solution designed to simulate the ionic conditions of the oral environment for laboratory evaluation of dental materials and various surfaces.
Based on the Gal–Fovet artificial saliva model, SAGF is particularly suitable for in vitro dental material studies, material–fluid interaction experiments, surface behavior investigations and controlled long-term exposure studies.
The product is prepared to a target pH of 6.8 and provides a controlled laboratory medium representing the mineral and ionic environment relevant to artificial saliva studies.
Main Applications
- In vitro evaluation of dental materials
- Restorative dental material studies
- Dental alloy and metallic surface research
- Ceramic, composite and polymer material studies
- Ion and component release investigations
- Simulation of the oral environment in corrosion and surface alteration studies
- Evaluation of coatings and surface modifications
- Dental implant and biomaterial research
- Material ageing and long-term exposure experiments
- Research applications in universities, R&D laboratories and material science laboratories
What is SAGF Artificial Saliva?
SAGF is a synthetic artificial saliva model described in the scientific literature as Gal–Fovet Artificial Saliva or Salive Artificielle Gal–Fovet.
Rather than reproducing all biological components of natural human saliva, SAGF is intended to provide a controlled mineral and ionic experimental environment for evaluating the behavior of dental and related materials under simulated oral conditions.
This makes SAGF suitable for comparative material testing, surface investigations and studies evaluating the effects of prolonged exposure to an artificial oral environment.
Product Characteristics
- Product type: Synthetic artificial saliva solution
- Model: Gal–Fovet (SAGF)
- Target pH: 6.8
- Appearance: Clear, colorless liquid
- Use: In vitro laboratory and research applications
- Application field: Dental materials, biomaterials and surface research
Why is SAGF Used?
Dental materials are continuously exposed to saliva in the oral environment. This interaction may affect surface properties, ion release, corrosion behavior, material stability and long-term performance.
Because the composition of natural saliva varies between individuals and may also change over time, standardized synthetic media are frequently preferred in controlled laboratory studies to improve experimental reproducibility.
Artificial Saliva Gal–Fovet (SAGF) is one of the literature-based artificial saliva models used for this purpose in dental and biomaterial research.
Literature-Based Artificial Saliva Model
SAGF is not a specific ISO or AFNOR standard solution. It is a literature-based artificial saliva model originally described by Gal and Fovet and subsequently used in various dental and biomaterial studies.
The product is manufactured by Colin under controlled production conditions with consideration of the ionic environment and target pH associated with the SAGF model.
