Testonic® Aluminium Test Kit (Titrimetric) is developed for easy drop-count measurement of aluminium (Al) in water and suitable process liquids. It is particularly useful for monitoring aluminium levels in treatment processes using aluminium sulfate or polyaluminium chloride (PAC).
The color-change titration method requires no laboratory instrument. Simply count the titrant drops to calculate aluminium concentration directly in ppm (mg/L) and compare results from different water samples.
Why Measure Aluminium in Water?
Aluminium-based chemicals are widely used in water treatment. Monitoring residual aluminium after treatment helps track changes in chemical dosage and filtration conditions.
Who Uses This Kit?
- Water and wastewater treatment facilities
- Plants using PAC or aluminium sulfate
- Industrial process-water control teams
- Technical service and maintenance personnel
3 Easy Steps
- Prepare the Sample: Fill the test tube with the water volume specified in the instructions.
- Add Solution A: Add the specified amount of Solution A and mix.
- Measure the Result: Add Solution B drop by drop until the color change is complete. Multiply the number of drops by 0.5 to calculate aluminium concentration in ppm (mg/L).
Package Contents
- Aluminium Test Solution A
- Aluminium Test Solution B (Titrant)
- Graduated test tube
Testonic® Aluminium Test Kit (Titrimetric) is developed for drop-count measurement of aluminium (Al) concentration in water and suitable process liquids. It can be used for routine aluminium monitoring in treatment processes using aluminium sulfate or polyaluminium chloride (PAC).
Aluminium-based chemicals are used in water treatment to bring small suspended particles together, making settling and filtration easier. Residual aluminium after treatment may vary depending on chemical dosage, pH and filtration conditions.
The kit uses a color-change titration method. Aluminium concentration is calculated from the number of titrant drops required to reach the endpoint. No laboratory instrument is required, and results can be obtained in approximately 5 minutes.
How to Perform the Aluminium Test
- Rinse the test tube with the water to be tested.
- Collect the sample volume specified in the instructions.
- Add the specified amount of Solution A and mix.
- Add Solution B drop by drop until the indicated color change is complete.
- Count the drops of Solution B used to calculate aluminium concentration.
How to Calculate the Result
1 titrant drop = 0.5 ppm (mg/L) Al
Aluminium (mg/L) = Number of titrant drops × 0.5
For example, if the color change is completed after 4 drops, the result is 2.0 mg/L Al. If 8 drops are required, the result is 4.0 mg/L Al.
This conversion factor applies when the sample volume and procedure specified in the kit instructions are followed.
Why Monitor Aluminium?
Water sources, coagulant dosage, pH and filtration conditions may change over time. Comparing samples before and after treatment helps operators monitor the effects of chemical processing.
Regular testing is particularly useful in facilities using PAC or aluminium sulfate to evaluate changes in chemical addition and filtration performance.
Titrimetric vs. Color Scale Aluminium Tests
Titrimetric version: The result is calculated by counting titrant drops required to complete the color change. Each drop corresponds to 0.5 mg/L aluminium. It is practical for routine process monitoring and tracking higher concentrations.
Color scale version: Low aluminium levels are evaluated against six reference colors within the 0.00–0.80 mg/L range.
The 0.20 mg/L indicator parameter value used for aluminium in drinking-water quality assessment is below this titrimetric kit's 0.5 mg/L drop increment. A validated method with a lower measurement range should therefore be used when detailed assessment at that level is required.

Important: Always use the sample volume specified in the instructions and count only the drops of Solution B. Do not drink the test solutions or tested water. Sample composition and other chemical properties may affect the result. Where official water quality compliance is required, appropriate validated laboratory analyses should be used.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. What does the Titrimetric Aluminium Test Kit measure?
It measures aluminium detectable by the method in water and suitable liquid samples, reporting results in mg/L (ppm).
2. Can it be used after PAC or aluminium sulfate treatment?
Yes. It is suitable for monitoring residual aluminium in processes using these chemicals.
3. How much aluminium does one drop represent?
Under the specified test conditions, one titrant drop corresponds to 0.5 mg/L aluminium.
4. What is the result if 6 drops are used?
6 × 0.5 = 3.0 mg/L aluminium.
5. Can this kit measure 0.20 ppm aluminium?
Its drop increment is 0.5 ppm, so it is not suitable for detailed measurement at 0.20 ppm. A method with a lower measurement range is needed.
6. What is the difference between titrimetric and color scale aluminium tests?
The titrimetric version calculates concentration from titrant drops. The color scale version compares the sample color with references between 0.00 and 0.80 ppm.
7. What may cause elevated aluminium after water treatment?
Changes in coagulant dosage, pH or filtration conditions may contribute. Results should be compared across relevant process sampling points.
8. How many tests can I perform?
Approximately 50 tests. Actual capacity may vary depending on titrant consumption per measurement.
