Testonic® Dissolved Oxygen (DO) Test Kit is designed for easy measurement of dissolved oxygen (O₂) in water samples. Monitor oxygen levels and aeration performance in fish farming, aquariums, water treatment, agriculture and industrial water systems.

The simple drop-count titration method requires no laboratory instrument. Add the test solutions, observe the color change and count the titrant drops to calculate dissolved oxygen concentration in ppm (mg/L).

1 Drop = 0.8 ppm O₂ Drop-count measurement
Results in 5 Minutes Simple color-change endpoint
Approx. 50 Tests Routine water monitoring

Why Measure Dissolved Oxygen?

Dissolved oxygen is essential for aquatic life and many biological water treatment processes. Regular monitoring helps assess aeration performance and changes in water conditions.

Who Uses This Kit?

  • Fish farming and aquaculture facilities
  • Aquariums and pond systems
  • Wastewater treatment and aeration plants
  • Agricultural irrigation and hydroponic systems
  • Industrial process-water control teams

3 Easy Steps

  1. Collect the Sample: Fill the test tube to the specified level without introducing air bubbles.
  2. Add the Solutions: Add the test solutions in the order specified in the instructions.
  3. Read the Result: Count the titrant drops required to reach the indicated color change. Multiply the drop count by 0.8 to calculate dissolved oxygen in ppm (mg/L).

Package Contents

  • Dissolved Oxygen Test Solution A
  • Dissolved Oxygen Test Solution B
  • Dissolved Oxygen Test Solution C
  • Dissolved Oxygen Test Solution D
  • Graduated test tube

Testonic® Dissolved Oxygen (DO) Test Kit is developed for drop-count measurement of dissolved oxygen (O₂) concentration in water samples. It can be used for oxygen monitoring in fish farming, aquariums, water treatment, agriculture and industrial process water.

Dissolved oxygen is an important water quality parameter for aquatic respiration and biological treatment processes. Oxygen concentration may change depending on water temperature, aeration, water movement and biological activity.

The kit uses a color-change titration method. The dissolved oxygen concentration is calculated from the number of titrant drops required to reach the endpoint. No specialized laboratory instrument is required.

How to Perform the Dissolved Oxygen Test

  1. Collect the specified water volume in the test tube without introducing air bubbles.
  2. Add the test solutions in the order and quantities stated in the instructions.
  3. Follow the specified mixing and waiting steps.
  4. At the indicated titration stage, add the titrant solution drop by drop.
  5. Count the titrant drops when the specified color change is complete.

How to Calculate the Result

1 titrant drop = 0.8 ppm (mg/L) O₂

Dissolved Oxygen (mg/L) = Number of titrant drops × 0.8

For example, if the color-change endpoint is reached after 5 titrant drops, the dissolved oxygen concentration is calculated as 4.0 mg/L O₂.

This conversion factor applies when the sample volume and procedure specified in the kit instructions are followed.

Why Measure Dissolved Oxygen?

Fish farming and aquariums: Monitoring oxygen levels helps assess water conditions for aquatic organisms.

Wastewater treatment: DO measurement can be used to monitor changes in biological treatment and aeration processes.

Agriculture and hydroponics: Oxygen levels in nutrient solutions and irrigation water can be compared.

Industrial water systems: The kit can be used to check changes in dissolved oxygen during water preparation and aeration operations.

Sample Collection

Dissolved oxygen may change after sampling because of air contact and biological activity. Samples should therefore be collected with minimal air-bubble formation, and the initial test steps should be performed without unnecessary delay.

When comparing measurements over time, recording water temperature and sampling location is also useful.

Technical Specifications

Measured parameter Dissolved Oxygen (DO / O₂)
Test method Drop-count titration
Drop factor 1 drop = 0.8 ppm (mg/L) O₂
Result unit mg/L (ppm) O₂
Result time Approximately 5 minutes
Test capacity Approximately 50 tests

Important: Always use the sample volume specified in the instructions and count only the drops added during the titration stage. Do not drink the test solutions or tested water. DO results indicate dissolved oxygen concentration; they do not independently assess other water quality parameters.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is dissolved oxygen (DO)?
It is molecular oxygen dissolved in water that can be used by aquatic organisms. It is usually expressed as mg/L or ppm O₂.

2. Is the DO test only for aquariums?
No. It can also be used in fish farming, biological water treatment, agriculture and industrial water systems.

3. Can I check aeration performance?
Yes. DO results from suitable samples taken before and after aeration can be compared.

4. How much oxygen does one drop represent?
Under the specified test conditions, one titrant drop corresponds to 0.8 mg/L O₂.

5. Does water temperature affect dissolved oxygen?
Yes. The oxygen-holding capacity of water generally decreases as temperature increases.

6. Why should air bubbles be avoided during sampling?
Air contact can change dissolved oxygen concentration and affect the test result.

7. What is the ideal DO level for fish?
The appropriate concentration depends on the fish species, water temperature and farming conditions. Results should be evaluated according to the needs of the species.

8. How many tests can I perform?
Approximately 50 tests. Actual capacity may vary depending on reagent consumption.
