Testonic® Aluminium Test Kit – Color Scale is designed for easy measurement of low aluminium (Al) levels in drinking water, treated water and suitable liquid samples. It is particularly useful for checking residual aluminium after water treatment processes using aluminium-based chemicals.

The color-comparison method requires no laboratory instrument or calculations. Simply add the test solutions, compare the developed color with the reference scale and read the aluminium concentration directly in ppm (mg/L).

0.00–0.80 ppm Low-level aluminium monitoring
6 Color Levels Direct reading from the scale
Results in 5 Minutes Simple visual comparison

Why Measure Aluminium in Water?

Aluminium sulfate and polyaluminium chloride (PAC) are used in water treatment. Monitoring residual aluminium after treatment helps track changes in chemical dosage and filtration performance.

Who Uses This Kit?

  • Drinking-water and process-water treatment plants
  • Facilities using PAC or aluminium sulfate
  • Water treatment service providers
  • Users performing routine water quality checks

3 Easy Steps

  1. Prepare the Sample: Fill the test tube with the water volume specified in the instructions.
  2. Add the Solutions: Add the test solutions in the specified order and mix.
  3. Read the Result: Compare the developed color with the reference scale and read the aluminium level in ppm (mg/L).

Testonic® Aluminium Test Kit – Color Scale is developed for visual measurement of low aluminium (Al) levels in water and suitable liquid samples. It is particularly useful for checking residual aluminium in drinking-water treatment and processes using aluminium-based coagulants.

Aluminium sulfate and polyaluminium chloride (PAC) are used to bring small suspended particles together so they can be removed during water treatment. Residual aluminium after treatment may vary depending on chemical dosage, pH and filtration conditions.

The test is based on comparing the developed sample color with a reference scale. The result is read directly in mg/L (ppm), without calculating concentration from a drop count.

How to Perform the Aluminium Test

  1. Collect the water volume specified in the instructions using the test tube.
  2. Add the test solutions in the specified order and quantities.
  3. Mix gently and allow the color to develop.
  4. Compare the developed color with the product's reference color scale.
  5. Read the closest aluminium concentration in mg/L (ppm).

Measurement Range and Color Scale

The kit covers 0.00–0.80 mg/L with six reference color values:

0.00 / 0.10 / 0.20 / 0.40 / 0.60 / 0.80 mg/L

For example, if the developed color closely matches the 0.20 ppm reference, the aluminium concentration is estimated at approximately 0.20 mg/L. If the color falls between two references, the result may be interpreted as an approximate intermediate level.

The 0.00 value is a visual zero reference and does not prove the complete absence of aluminium. Concentrations above 0.80 ppm cannot be quantified using this scale.

Aluminium Monitoring in Drinking Water

In Türkiye, 0.20 mg/L (200 µg/L) is used as an indicator parameter value for aluminium in drinking-water quality assessment.

The 0.10 and 0.20 mg/L references on the color scale make it convenient to compare low aluminium levels. However, visual test results are approximate. Official compliance assessments require appropriate validated laboratory analyses.

Technical Specifications

Measured parameter Aluminium (Al)
Measurement range 0.00–0.80 mg/L (ppm)
Color levels 6
Test method Visual color comparison
Result unit mg/L (ppm) Al
Result time Approximately 5 minutes

Important: Compare colors in a well-lit environment. The sample's original color, turbidity and chemical properties may affect visual interpretation. The result does not independently establish the concentration of every aluminium species or confirm drinking-water safety.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What does the Color Scale Aluminium Test Kit measure?
It provides a visual estimate of aluminium detectable by the method within the 0.00–0.80 mg/L range.

2. Can it be used after PAC or aluminium sulfate treatment?
Yes. It can be used to monitor residual aluminium after treatment processes using these chemicals.

3. What does 0.20 ppm aluminium mean in drinking water?
It corresponds to approximately 0.20 mg/L or 200 µg/L aluminium. This is numerically equal to the indicator parameter value used in drinking-water quality assessment in Türkiye.

4. Can clear water contain aluminium?
Yes. Clear water may still contain aluminium that is not visible to the eye.

5. Do I need to count drops to calculate the result?
No. Add the test solutions as instructed and read the result by comparing the developed color with the reference scale.

6. What if aluminium is above 0.80 ppm?
The result is outside the kit's measurement range and should be confirmed using another suitable method or laboratory analysis.

7. Can colored or turbid samples affect the result?
Yes. The sample's original color and turbidity may interfere with visual comparison.

8. What is the difference between color-scale and titrimetric aluminium tests?
The color-scale kit evaluates low aluminium concentrations against reference colors. The titrimetric kit determines concentration by counting titrant drops required to reach a color-change endpoint.
