Testonic® Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) Test Kit is designed for quick and practical determination of ascorbic acid (vitamin C) concentration in water and suitable liquid samples. It can be used for quality control of fruit juices, beverages, suitable liquid food samples and process solutions containing ascorbic acid.

The drop-counting titration method eliminates the need for expensive laboratory instruments or complicated analytical procedures. Ascorbic acid concentration is calculated from the number of drops required to reach the specified color change. Each drop corresponds to 20 ppm ascorbic acid, providing results in approximately 5 minutes.

Drop Factor 1 Drop = 20 ppm
Test Time Approx. 5 Minutes
Test Capacity Approx. 50 Tests

Why Is Vitamin C Measurement Important?

Ascorbic acid is an important component naturally present in foods and beverages or added to product formulations. Its concentration may decrease over time depending on oxygen exposure, temperature, light and storage conditions. Regular ascorbic acid measurement makes it easier to compare products and monitor vitamin C levels during manufacturing and quality control.

Vitamin C Measurement in 3 Easy Steps

  1. Prepare the Sample: Fill the graduated test tube with the specified volume of the liquid sample according to the instructions.
  2. Perform the Test: Add the test solution drop by drop, gently mixing the sample and observing the specified color change.
  3. Calculate the Result: Count the drops consumed when titration is complete. Each drop corresponds to 20 ppm ascorbic acid.

Kit Contents

  • Ascorbic Acid Test Solution
  • 5/10 mL Graduated Test Tube
  • Instructions for Use

Testonic® Ascorbic Acid Test Kit – Vitamin C Measurement

Testonic® Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) Test Kit is a drop-counting titrimetric test designed for quick and practical determination of ascorbic acid concentration in water and suitable liquid samples.

It can be used for ascorbic acid monitoring in fruit juices, beverages, food manufacturing, cosmetics and industrial processes. The kit provides results in ppm within approximately 5 minutes without specialized laboratory instruments.

Test Parameter Vitamin C
Drop Factor 20 ppm
Test Time Approx. 5 min
Test Capacity Approx. 50

Analytical Principle

The test uses a color-change-based drop titration method that takes advantage of the reducing properties of ascorbic acid. The test solution is added drop by drop until the specified color endpoint is reached.

Ascorbic acid concentration is calculated from the number of drops consumed. Under the standard sample volume specified on the product label, 1 drop corresponds to 20 ppm ascorbic acid.

Result Calculation

Ascorbic Acid (ppm) = Number of Drops × 20

Example: 5 drops × 20 = 100 ppm ascorbic acid

Why Is Vitamin C Measurement Important?

Ascorbic acid is naturally present in many fruits and vegetables and is also used in numerous food and beverage formulations. It may undergo oxidation depending on exposure to oxygen, light, temperature and storage conditions.

As a result, ascorbic acid concentrations may vary between production batches or during storage. Regular vitamin C measurement makes it easier to monitor product formulations and manufacturing quality.

Applications

  • Fruit juice production: Ascorbic acid monitoring in suitable liquid samples.
  • Beverage industry: Production and batch control of vitamin C-containing beverages.
  • Food manufacturing: Quality control of suitable liquid products containing ascorbic acid.
  • Cosmetics: Ascorbic acid monitoring in appropriate aqueous formulations.
  • Chemical manufacturing: Monitoring process solutions containing ascorbic acid.
  • Quality control and R&D: Comparison of products, raw materials and production batches.

How to Use

  1. Sample Preparation: Fill a clean test tube with the liquid sample volume specified in the instructions.
  2. Titration: Add Ascorbic Acid Test Solution drop by drop while gently mixing the sample. Observe the specified color change.
  3. Result Calculation: When titration is complete, multiply the number of drops consumed by 20 to obtain the ascorbic acid concentration in ppm.

Note: Follow the product instructions for sample volume, endpoint determination and testing conditions.

Technical Specifications

Property Description
Test Parameter Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C)
Analytical Method Drop-counting titrimetric method
Drop Factor 1 drop = 20 ppm ascorbic acid
Result Unit ppm
Test Time Approximately 5 minutes
Test Capacity Approximately 50 tests
Sample Type Water and suitable liquid samples
Instrument Required No
Kit Contents Test solution, 5/10 mL graduated test tube, instructions for use

Interpretation of Results

The result is calculated from the number of drops consumed during titration and expressed as ppm ascorbic acid.

Number of Drops Ascorbic Acid
1 20 ppm
2 40 ppm
3 60 ppm
5 100 ppm
10 200 ppm

These values apply to the standard sample volume and testing conditions specified in the instructions. If the sample has been diluted, the dilution factor must be considered when calculating the original concentration.

Analytical Interferences and Measurement Limitations

  • Other reducing substances present in the sample may affect the ascorbic acid result.
  • Highly colored or turbid samples may make the titration endpoint difficult to observe.
  • Ascorbic acid may degrade through oxidation caused by oxygen and temperature, so samples should be analyzed promptly.
  • The 20 ppm drop factor should be considered when evaluating measurement resolution.
  • The method should not be considered a direct determination of total vitamin C, including its oxidized forms.

For precise quantitative analysis or confirmation in complex samples, an appropriate laboratory method should be used.

Related Food and Beverage Quality Parameters

In addition to ascorbic acid measurement, other quality parameters may be monitored depending on the product.

  • pH: Evaluation of acidity characteristics in beverages and food solutions.
  • Total Acidity: Monitoring the total titratable acidity of a product.
  • Brix: Monitoring soluble solids content in beverages.
  • Ascorbic Acid: Comparing vitamin C levels during production and storage.

Important Application Notes

  • Use a clean test tube for each measurement.
  • Avoid unnecessary delays before sample analysis.
  • Add the test solution drop by drop and mix after each addition.
  • Prepare the sample volume according to the instructions.
  • Interpret results carefully when analyzing highly colored samples or samples containing other reducing compounds.
